Add caption
I had the extreme pleasure of photographing a 40th birthday party at Le Bernardin in New York City. The decor was as beautiful as the birthday girl.

Love from the Past - Brooklyn Bridge

On Saturday, Occupy Wall Street protesters claimed officers from the New York City Police Department lured them onto the Brooklyn Bridge’s roadway to trap and arrest. I remember my first walk across the iconic bridge I love so much.

Love from the Past - Champagne Pool

New Zealand's Champagne Pool is a prominent geothermal feature within the Wai-O-Tapu geothermal area of the North Island of New Zealand. The terrestrial hot spring is located southeast of Rotorua. The name Champagne Pool is derived from the abundant efflux of carbon dioxide, similar to a glass of bubbling champagne. The hot spring was formed 900 years ago by a hydrothermal eruption, which makes it in geological terms a relatively young system. I visited New Zealand in 2004.

Table Rock

Love from the Past - Me

I've been blogging since 2002 and I don't talk about myself much here, but thought I should, after all there years introduce myself and share a photo of me. Here is my bio: Cheryl Zibisky's photographs have appeared in several notable publications including; Real Simple, Ladies Home Journal, Wine Spectator, Garden & Gun, Family Fun and New York Magazine. The recipient of numerous awards, critics have noted her ability to find beauty in both a sensual neck line and an old weathered chair. This aspect of her work is explored in a study of Atlanta's Hotel Scoville (yet to be published).

Completed around the turn of the century in the heart of Atlanta's original commercial district, the hotel was once a pleasant destination for businessman traveling to Atlanta by rail. However, during the decline of the city's downtown area, the hotel fell to harder times. Nearly 100 years after its completion, when Ms. Zibisky came across the building, it sat in neighborhood filled bars, pool halls, and prostitutes. In a strikingly successful self-proclaimed attempt, to show what is left behind when people and places have nowhere to go. She documents both the space and its clientele over its last few months of business.

After completing her studies at Atlanta's Portfolio Center, Ms. Zibisky made the move north to New York City. In her time in New York she built a portfolio while working with great talent and clients. But most of all though, she enjoys walking around her Park Slope, Brooklyn neighborhood capturing people with their fury companions and visiting with friends. In 2002 Cheryl established a group of talent for regular Art Swaps. The purpose of the evening is to gather creatives of all genres and mediums together in one location in order to exchange ideas and socialize in general. The idea is each attendee will bring an original piece of artwork, the work is then numbered and hung within the chosen space. The numbers are then collected in a hat and each attendee draws one (other than there own) and walks away the proud owner of a new piece of art. Designer Russell Austin http://www.russellaustin.com/ created an identity for the group and the group still meets regularly.

In 2010 Cheryl moved south to enjoy love and the mountains. She now splits her time between New York and North Carolina. Her hobbies include pottery and fishing!

The Blowing Rock

My sister and her family came to visit. They took advantage of the skiing and the family photographer. Here they are hamming it up at the Blowing Rock and the legend of the Rock.

It is said that a Chickasaw chieftan, fearful of a white man’s admiration for his lovely daughter, journeyed far from the plains to bring her to The Blowing Rock and the care of a squaw mother. One day the maiden, daydreaming on the craggy cliff, spied a Cherokee brave wandering in the wilderness far below and playfully shot an arrow in his direction. The flirtation worked because soon he appeared before her wigwam, courted her with songs of his land and they became lovers, wandering the pathless woodlands and along the crystal streams. One day a strange reddening of the sky brought the brave and the maiden to The Blowing Rock. To him it was a sign of trouble commanding his return to his tribe in the plains. With the maiden’s entreaties not to leave her, the brave, torn by conflict of duty and heart, leaped from The Rock into the wilderness far below. The grief-stricken maiden prayed daily to the Great Spirit until one evening with a reddening sky, a gust of wind blew her lover back onto The Rock and into her arms.

I Love My Job, Part 16

I love when I get to do advertising jobs. In October I worked two days for an ad agency who sells cinema advertising and promotes unique in-theatre events. I loved my team and the results were exactly what the company requested. It's always a pleasure to get considered for non-editorial jobs.

I Love My Job, Part 15 - Boone, NC

"Our State" magazine, January 2011

Here are a few pages of my most recent photo contribution to "Our State" magazine - Boone, North Carolina. I went to Boone Drug today for lunch and Bobby, the manager, treated me to my meal...I feel like such a celebrity. I also so saw Officer Foley walking his beat and filling his coffee cup. And chatted with Nikki at the Bead Box. Thank you all for letting me take your picture and welcoming me to your town.
